Why is certification so important?In a time where business is not always ethical, we are grateful for organisations such as COSMEBIO & QUALITE FRANCE who keep a watchful eye on our industry. It is important for consumers to be able to distinguish true natural and organic skincare brands. PHYT’S is proudly organic and has been manufacturing natural products exclusively for over 38yrs. PHYT’S has never tested on animals, has never used synthetics and has always operated to the highest ethical principles.
What is the difference between International and Australian Organic certification?Organic certification bodies in Australia do not yet have a charter specific to cosmetics and skincare. This means that currently, any skincare product that is organically certified in Australia must adhere to the “National Food Standard for Organic and Bio-dynamic Produce” which is a food standards that demands a 70% or higher content of organic ingredients. Considering that a cream is usually around 90% water (and water is not certifiable), this is difficult to achieve. International organic certification does have an organic certification charter specific to cosmetics. However, standards of manufacturing and processing of organic ingredients appear to be equal. What is important is that both International and Australian Organic certifying bodies have the same goal - to provide the standards to give consumers confidence that they are purchasing the most natural, authentic and ethical products with ingredients ingredients.
How is the organics industry evolving?International communities are joining together creating unified standards for all to recognize which is a major step forward. In fact, right now the European communities are launching a new, international standard This isn’t about creating another organic certification body, this is about creating an entirely new platform – a standard of sustainability that will encompass not only the use of organic ingredients but ethical, ecological and humanitarian concerns as well. This is called the – COSMOS standard. This standard is setting an international benchmark of which all countries – Australia, New Zealand, everyone will be included.
